$245

A Georgian Britannia metal teapot made in England c1800-20 by Dixon & Smith of Sheffield. This 11-3/4" along the spout and wooden painted handle teapot stands 7" high; it retains its original black painted handle and finial. It is nicely engraved, and it has the (somewhat obscured) mark for this company, which is listed in a Sheffield trade directory from 1822. Britannia metal is actually spun pewter rather than cast, and could be made thinner, cheaper and stronger than hammered pewter at the time. This item is in excellent condition for its age with no cracks, losses, monograms, corrosion, repairs or damage other than some minor losses to the black paint, a shallow dent on one shoulder under the engraving (minor), some shrinkage at the mounts of the handle (expected), and a shallow dent on one side of the spout. It has a nice mellow gunmetal grey patina. Shipping is $11 (to the US - other spots may vary) - insured is higher, and mandatory on items over $85 if paid with a credit card. We do ship internationally. All of our prices are in $US.
