A Davenport 2614 Old Imari 2451 style pattern cup and saucer from 1870-1887. This wonderful fully hand painted English bone china 2-5/8" tall cup and matching 5-5/8" saucer has lush gold, cobalt and orange decoration. The pattern was later copied by Royal Crown Derby as "Old Imari" or "Traditional Imari" (in production from 1902-2014). This scarce cup and saucer has the Davenport mark used from 1870-87 and it is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, crazing, damage or repairs other than a tiny 1/16" surface glaze flaw or glaze crack. The cup rings true and on the top and interior edge the flaw isn't visible through the original gilding, which was applied over the flaw at the factory. All items are thoroughly and conservatively graded and all condition issues are noted; all items are vintage or antique and may have slight signs of gentle use. Expedited tracked and insured parcel shipping to the U.S. starts at $20 (other spots may vary, air is higher). Items paid with a credit card will be shipped to confirmed addresses only. A set of 4 Chinese Qing dynasty tea bowls and saucers. These antique porcelain blue and white 1-5/8" tall tea bowls or cups and 4-5/8" wide saucers date from 1736-1795. It is possible they are slightly older. This antique Chinese porcelain set has a man on a horse holding a small twig, followed by a servant carrying provisions. The background shows a tree starting to flower. My interpretation is that he was looking for indications that winter is over, so the important work of spring can begin. The scenes are the same on the saucers and the outside of the cups, decorated borders, and interior flowers in the cups (possibly prunus/plum), but everything is hand painted, so no pieces are identical. These tea bowls were more likely produced for the Chinese rather than European taste. The porcelain is a fine quality. All pieces are unmarked, and they are in reasonably good condition, but with no losses, damage or repairs other than sone very fine edge chips on the cups and a fine partial hairline crack in one saucer. Please note that all pieces have the expected glaze irregularities including burst bubbles, tiny firing cracks on the bottom rim of one cup, bottom rim chips on one saucer, and a few tiny firing pits/dark kiln specks from the manufacture of these pieces. All items are thoroughly and conservatively graded and all condition issues are noted; all items are vintage or antique and may have slight signs of gentle use. Expedited tracked and insured parcel shipping to the U.S. starts at $45 (other spots may vary, air is higher). Items paid with a credit card will be shipped to confirmed addresses only. An M.J. Tobias Liverpool 18k & sterling engraved face Swiss pocket watch from the 1890s. This 14 size or 18 ligne watch is 1-7/8" across and it has a typical unmarked Swiss bar movement, a fancy engraved 18k yellow gold back cover with Swiss gold markings, a dust cover marked M.J. A William IV sterling silver vinaigrette made by Thomas Shaw of Birmingham, England 1833. Vinaigrettes were used in the 18th and 19th century as a personal hygiene accessory for the moneyed class and were used to carry pleasant oils and attars or vinegars which were absorbed into cloth pads under the pierced gilded grillwork and sniffed so as to cover up the smells of everyday life (when there were open sewers and waste and garbage were tossed from windows onto the sidewalks and streets below). This 1-7/16 x 1" example has fine hand engraving and it retains the fine openwork grill and gilding. It has the hallmarks and maker's mark for Thomas Shaw of Birmingham, England and the date letter for 1833. It has a gothic M monogram on the top and it is in very good condition with no dents, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs other than some signs of slightly abrasive polishing in the past. A hand painted Limoges large roses centerpiece or fruit bowl dated 1903. This wonderfully handpainted 10-3/8" across bowl stands 4" high and 8-1/2" deep, it has a handle on one side, and the painting is of very high quality for a painted blank. Typical in this era, china painting was very popular and some very talented pieces were produced by home amateurs. This example has lovely red roses and green foliage, a pink interior ground with a pair of roses, and gold trim (which required a refiring to set after the firing on of the painting). It is stamped with HAVILAND FRANCE (the maker of the blank) and 2. (the item or mold number). It is signed ANNA KAMMAN. 1902 and this Edwardian bowl is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, crazing, wear, losses, damage or repairs. A Victorian silver plate rolltop butter dish or server in the Aesthetic style from the 1880s. This antique beauty was made by Meriden and it has all of the hallmarks of quality and Victorian style and mechanical complexity. It has a pedestal base, a handle with floral decoration, high relief borders and a roll top with a pressed floral design. The rolling lid rests on two pins secured with a chained pinion and there are mounts on each side for a pair of butter knives. This steampunk item remains in reasonable condition with a few issues - one knife rest is missing (3 are intact), one side of one mounting bracket for the retaining pins is broken off, there is some pitting on the interior where a (now missing) ice liner would have been and there is a bit of plating loss on a few areas. The rolltop is functional and this would make a great decor item or table centerpiece (and a great "what is it?" for your next dinner party). We have a few extra pictures available on request, and this item is being sold in as found condition. An antique Unger Bros sterling silver stamp safe or case circa 1890. This scarce late Victorian era 1-7/8" x 1-3/8" American sterling silver stamp safe has a lovely floral repouse design. This pocket stamp carrier is similar to a match safe in appearance, but smaller and without the striker edge. It has two circular cutouts on the upper edge for grasping the stamps. In the Victorian era, letter writing was a more popular pastime, so these boxes were a necessity to a well appointed desk. A 19thC Farrar Batiscan Quebec 4 gallon handled wine jug or crock, for the Marchand & Co spice, wine and liquor merchant. This 18-3/4" tall handled salt glazed stoneware jug still has the cork and it is completely hand thrown. It has a blue floral design identical with other known Farrar examples and it has a blue-wiped impressed legend stating "MARCHAND & CO MARCHANDS EPCIERES VINS ET LIQUEURS BATISCAN 4". Moses and Ebenezer Farrar were from Vermont, and they established one of the earliest stoneware potteries in Canada around 1840. Their first pottery was in St Johns Quebec, and later in Iberville Quebec. Their merchant crocks were usually not signed (by preference of the merchant, who was advertising their own goods). They closed somewhere around 1927, after the death of Ebenezer's son Georg H Farrar ((source: Early Canadian Pottery, Donald Webster, 1971). It is in very good condition with no cracks, losses, damage or repairs other than some edge chips near the mouth and some original kiln burning to the blue design. A superb quality 4-3/8" across Sorrento ware wood inlay trinket or jewellery box from the mid to late 19th century. This box stands 1-3/4" high and it has wonderful colour and workmanship. The sides feature red banding and a Greek key design in green, yellow and black with a brown ground. The top is the highlight, with literally thousands of individually placed fruitwood tesserae in a needlepoint-style flower and leaf panel decoration - the effect isquite similar to a carpet; the colours are bright and unfaded and the fine workmanship is remarkable. The interior of the box is olive wood. The condition of this unsigned, brass-hinged box is very good indeed for a box of its age and type, with only some very small barely noticeable losses and craquelure to the finish. There is a small loss along the edge of one corner panel, some minor lid warping to the hinge and front edge leaving small gaps, a thin crack and small corner losses to one lower red band on one side panel and the possible replacement of one half of one hinge with a non-brass one. A very rare set of (probably) English 9-7/8" plates in a variant of the original Blue Willow pattern. We haven't been able to accurately identify this pattern with its distinctive border butterflies in our books, however they are definitely Georgian. The porcelain is the expected light gray and the decoration is slightly blurred and each plate has the expected frit and minor variations from the manufacture of these items. It is quite unusual to find a matched set of four of these plates and one has a partial gold seal from the British Antique Dealer Association (B.A.D.A.) which guaranteed that the plates were over 100 years old at the time of sale (many decades ago). They are unsigned and are in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, crazing, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs other than a 5/8" loss to the surface glaze on the rim of one plate only. All items are thoroughly and conservatively graded and all condition issues are noted; all items are vintage or antique and may have slight signs of gentle use. Expedited tracked and insured parcel shipping to the U.S. starts at $27 (other spots may vary, air is higher). Items paid with a credit card will be shipped to confirmed addresses only. A rare Georgian whiskey barrel figural string holder. This superb, unusual vintage Georgian whiskey or ale cask figural string holder is from the 1800-30 era. String was a valuable and useful item in the Georgian home, and this holder could also have held embroidery thread for sewing. Made of beautifully figured rosewood with a great patina and trimmed with gilt brass bands held with hand made nails, this string dispenser has a detailed brass spigot through which the string emerges. There is a mounted steel cutting blade in the form of the spigot's handle, and the whole barrel sits on a rosewood plinth. The workmanship is superb, and it has remnants of a velvet-covered bottom. The base measures 3-7/8" x 2-7/8" and it stands 3-1/2" high. Made for a well-to-do household, this holder is in excellent original condition with no corrosion, losses, damage or repairs other than some age shrinkage of the wood causing the brass bands to sit a bit above the wood surface, some minor loss to the gilding and some minor age cracks to the rosewood base. All items are thoroughly and conservatively graded and all condition issues are noted; all items are vintage or antique and may have slight signs of gentle use. A scarce WMF boy with snail pewter card tray circa 1900. This original period Art Nouveau oval calling card salver measures 11" x 5-3/8". it was made in Germany by WMF. WMF is the short form in current company use by the highly regarded German metal manufacturer Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik which began in 1853 in Geislingen an der Steige. This tray has the 210 embossed pattern number and WMFB 0X under the boy's hair on the back. It is all original and not a reproduction and we haven't polished it preferring to maintain the wonderful patina only developed with age (many are over-polished or have been silver plated). This item is in excellent condition with no dents, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs other than the warm and attractive patina from age and use. A truly fine example of Art Nouveau design. A rare English Pratt ware Lord Nelson and Capt. Berry jug made between 1798-1806. We believe it was issued to commemorate either the Battle of the Nile (a significant English military battle of 1798) or the battle of Trafalgar (1805), a most significant English military battle still commemorated today in England on Trafalgar Day. This 5-3/8" tall pitcher has stylized portraits of Admiral Lord Horatio Nelson and Captain Edward Berry with orange, brown, cobalt and green glazes on the high-relief modelling. Prattware is not often found in perfect condition, and this piece is not, either. This jug is un-restored except for a primitive and early reattachment of the bottom of the handle. There is some interior browning and staining, some overall crazing and some exterior browning on the spout. The bottom of the handle is missing and the bottom third has been crudely cemented in place. This jug is well worth having professionally restored, and it is a seldom seen English historic commemorative. It is in fair intact condition with no chips, cracks, repairs or damage other than stated above. All items are thoroughly and conservatively graded and all condition issues are noted; all items are vintage or antique and may have signs of use. Expedited tracked and insured parcel shipping to the U.S. starts at $27 (other spots may vary, air is higher). Items paid with a credit card will be shipped to confirmed addresses only.
