A 9k gold double scarab beetle brooch circa 1870-90. This scarce mid-Victorian 9k yellow gold bar pin has two claw-set real green scarab beetles. Anything Egyptian was all the rage at this time, and this 2-1/4" x 5/8" brooch is typical. The beetles are real, they are a chrysomelid, also known as a tortoise beetle. A 9K yellow gold man's pocket knife fully hallmarked London, England 1950. This classy gift or men's accessory measures 3-1/4 x 7/16", it has thick engine-turned gold panels enclosing the two blades and it is fully hallmarked and dated 1950 with an SJR maker's mark (for S.J. Rose). Each gold cover is hallmarked and the hinges or rivets are covered by the engine turned design. The blades are marked STAINLESS SHEFFIELD and this knife has never been engraved or initialled. An Algonquin lidded sewing or yarn basket circa 1930s. This lovely Native American 10" tall and 6-1/2" across utility sewing basket has large hoop handles and the lid has a coiled wood yarn guide opening on the lid. It retains traces of the original natural dyes on the exterior while the interior of the body and lid show the bright red, orange and green of the original colours. This nice decor item is in very good condition with no major damage or repairs other than the mild dye fading and a small area of splits with a small loss to the narrow banding beside one of the handle mounts. Alphonse Legros Print Collectors Club Book #109/500. This scarce art book from the Art Deco era was published by the Print Collectors' Club of London, England in 1934. This 10 x 7-1/2" paper and cloth bound book has 24 pages plus 17 black and white illustrations following on separate pages; it is titled THE ETCHINGS, DRYPOINTS AND LITHOGRAPHS OF ALPHONSE LEGROS 1837-1911, and it is one of a series of limited edition art books published in this era. This book is hand numbered 109 out of 350 copies (300 for the Print Club members). Certainly the finest and most decorative vintage chocolate box we've come across! This is a c1930s-40s (we think) paper wrapped box with an applied print of two kittens on the top. The textured paper wrap is wallpaper thick with lush gold highlights, and this box has a gold Urney applique. The original tied ribbon is also present on this 13-3/4 x 9-3/4" box, which has the original sticker on the bottom (CHOCOLATES - 1-1/2 LB NET MANUFACTURED IN THE REPUBLIC OF IRELAND). An American Federal period portrait miniature of a lady circa 1800. This well painted antique miniature painting on ivory measures 2-5/8" x 2-1/8" is under a glass cover. The portrait features a woman with draped headdress and white dress. She is extremely well painted, and the case is leather over wood with a brass clasp. The cases were sometimes replaced over the years, so we can't that it is original to the portrait, although it may be. It is unsigned and the artist and subject are unidentified, with no provenance available. An Ando Japanese boxed cloisonne smoking set from the 1960s-1970s. This elegant set consists of the 9-1/2" x 4-3/4" faux alligator papered fitted box, the Japanese language "Cloisonne Making" fold-out pamphlet, the 3-5/8" covered cigarette jar, three 3-3/8" bowl-shaped ash trays, and the 17" x 9-1/2" fringed woven table mat. This set has an Organo mark on the bottom, possibly for Organo of Japan, a now world-wide Japanese company specializing in water treatment (they began in 1946, this may be an older company logo).
